TWO STATE FEATURE RACE RUNNERS FOR US TODAY

Runners in Melbourne and Sydney for us today in feature races.

Peru is the first to go in the Norman Robinson Stakes over 2000 metres and with Ethan Brown to ride and co-trainer Glen Thompson explains the stable has tinkered with the gear.

“He jumped out last week in blinkers and today looks a nice race for him,” Glen said. “We’d like to get some cover for him early in the blinkers which might be tricky in this small field but if that can happen and he relaxes then he can run well.”

Benagil runs in race six, the Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400 metres under Luke Currie.

“She had a jumpout last Friday and she’s come through that very well so all in all we could not he happier with her,” Glen said.

“She’s drawn well and we just wanting her to jump away better than she did first-up and if she does that then we feel she is capable of running well.”

The Pendragon and Buffalo River round out our day when they both run in the Moonga Stakes over 1400 metres, Joao Moreira on The Pendragon and Celine Gaudrey riding Buffalo River.

“We are actually happy Buffalo River has drawn out today, he races best when he can build his early momentum wider out and then cross,” Glen said. “He wasn’t able to do that last start but we were happy with the run under the circumstances.

“If things can go his way there is no reason why he can’t run well, he’s nice and bright and will not he bothered by the ground so he can figure in the finish.

“:The Pendragon has come back in good order, he’s had a solid jumpout and is working well leading into today.

“he’s untried on heavy ground but has won on soft and he has Joao Moreira to help him. His first-up record is not great however, he’s very well in himself and working well so we are anticipating a forward showing.”

War Machine (pictured) is at Randwick for the Silver Eagle over 1300 metres with Declan Bates riding and drawn barrier two.

“He’s travelled up safe and sound and settled in well,” Glen said. “His gallop here on Tuesday was most encouraging and although it does look a competitive race we feel our horse is up to it - we would not have travelled him if we did not think he would be competitive and with ordinary luck we expect him to be in the finish.”
