GROUP 1 ASSIGNMENT FOR BUFFALO RIVER

Runners at home and interstate today including Buffalo River in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick.

Tim Clark is aboard Buffalo River (pictured) in the seventh race at Randwick and assistant trainer Glen Thompson advises has settled in well.

“Glen reports from Sydney that the horse hasn't left an oat since he arrived Thursday morning and is feeling very well,” Mike Moroney said.

“He has drawn wide which is ideal for him as he takes a few strides to muster so he will be able to get to the lead at his own speed. Once he is leading he will go at a good clip and hopefully have them all chasing from a long way out.

“We feel he has never raced better and in a strong race we are confident he will give a great sight and is a good each chance. We have Tim Clark on board who is one of the best front running jockeys in Australia and he will give him every chance.”

Closer to home at Mornington Burlington Gate gets us started in the second race over 1600 metres with Jye McNeil in the saddle.

“She strips fitter here and I think will appreciate the trip,” Mike said. “Her work this week has been very good and whilst she is meeting older mares she only has 54.5kg’s to carry.

“From a good barrier draw she should get every opportunity and we feel she is a good each way chance.”

Big Watch runs in the fifth race over 1200 metres.

"He's raced well this preparation and is in good order," Mike said.

"The barrier will make things awkward for him to find a spot without being caught wide.

"I'm sure he will run his usual honest race and with an ounce of luck figure in the finish."

McNeil is also aboard Stylish in the Mornington Guineas over 1600 metres.

“We couldn't be happier with her. her work here Tuesday morning was first class and she has improved since her good win last start,” Mike said.

“We feel the distance will suit her and she should get a gun run from barrier two. Whilst this is a jump in grade this isn't the strongest field for a Guineas and we feel she will run very well and is a strong each way chance.”

Gregolimo and Mathletic round out our day in the last race with Jye McNeil riding Gregolimo and Ryan Houston aboard Mathletic.

“Gregolimo has come back stronger and his jump outs have been very good,” Mike said.

“We have taken the ear muffs off and he is settling better. From barrier one he should be smothered up behind the leaders and he will be strong late.

“This is an ideal race to start in and we are expecting him to run a big race.”

“Mathletic has taken good improvement from his first-up run at Caulfield and this represents a drop in class for him.

“The claim helps and provided he can cope with the circuit we are expecting him to run well.”
