AIMING FOR THE STARS

Stable favourite Buffalo River is aiming for the stars at Caulfield today when he lines up in the All-Star Mile.

Celine Gaudrey retains the ride and Mike Moroney is pleased with the way Buffalo River (pictured) is holding his condition.

“We’re happy with him and he looks terrific,” Mike said. “We don’t do much on the track with him now and he does most of his work on the treadmill where we can regulate what he does.

“It’s a pretty deep race as you would expect for the prizemoney and as usual, the key to his chances will be the early speed but we won’t be changing anything and he’s there to do his best and I’m sure he’ll be in it for a long way.”

White Bear gets our day started in the third race over 1200 metres with Jordan Childs aboard.

“He’s holding his condition a lot better this preparation which certainly helps,” Mike said.

“He was impressive last start but today is clearly a step up in class. The draw doesn’t really affect him at this distance and in what looks a very evenly matched race at this benchmark level I do expect him to prove hard to beat.”

Mathletic makes his Australian debut in the last race at Listed level over 1200 metres under Jamie Kah.

“He’s been off the course for a while, taking a little while to acclimatise but he’s in good order and we’re happy with him,” Mike said.

“He’s working with enthusiasm and his latest jumpout was pleasing.

“Today might be a bit on the short side for him but he’s certainly good enough to run well fresh and it’s good to get him to the races.”
