Another Friday with day and night runners as we race at Moonee Valley and Moe.

Nails And Pride and Pinotage race at Moe with Battle Sound under lights at Moonee Valley with Nails And Pride the first to go in the third race at Moe over 1600 metres with Daniel Stackhouse riding the Mike Moroney-homebred.

“He’s come on for his debut run at Seymour and the step up in trip today will be interesting,” Mike said.

“Although he is by Sepoy his granddam is a half-sister to Erupt, a middle-distance Group One winner in Europe.

“He’s drawn nicely in four, has improved for the experience so the distance will be the question mark today but he’s fit enough to be competitive in an open maiden with the favourite Sweet Jasmine looking the one to beat.”

Liam Riordan is aboard Pinotage in the fourth race over 2050 metres.

“I was pleased with her last start third over 1600 metres at Ballarat where she chesed home steadily and she’ll be better suited over today’s trip,” Mike said.

“She’s fitter now after two runs this preparation and I do think the step up in trip will suit her so with ordinary luck from a good barrier I’m expecting her to be competitive.

Tonight Battle Sound (pictured) runs in the eighth race at Moonee Valley under Wiremu Pinn.

“It’s his first run after a long time off but he’s pleasing us at home,” Mike said.

“He worked with Bermadez on the grass Tuesday and went every bit as well in what was a good piece of work.

“He’s been off the course for nearly a year so he will be improved for the run and the wide draw is no help but if he runs up to his work on Tuesday then he should be in the finish.”
