GEELONG RUNNERS ON THURSDAY

A busy Thursday for us with Connecticut, Crimmo, Kingston Gal and Spanish Idol running at Geelong.

Spanish Idol is the first to go, making his debut in the third race over 1240 metres with Daniel Stackhouse riding and Mike Moroney explains has come back a better horse as a gelding.

“He’s come back in better shape as a gelding and we’re happy with him,” Mike said.

“He’s had a bit of practice now and he’s ready to go the races. My query is the heavy track but we will not know until he tries it.

“The scratchings have made things a little easier but the main thing is for him to have a nice experience and as long as there is not an exceptional one among the other debutants then I’m expecting him to be competitive.”

Kingston Gal is also on debut in race four over 1240 metres with Jye McNeil aboard.

“She’s a good looking daughter of Almanzor and she’s a half-sister to Brutal so she’s bred to be handy,” Mike said.

“Her race has also been affected by scratchings and we are guessing to an extent with the heavy track but she too is ready to go the races and acquit herself well.”

Crimmo (pictured) runs in the sixth race over 1340 metres under John Allen.

“He’s first-up but is ready after a couple of jumpouts,” Mike said. “He is untried on a heavy track so we are in the unknown however, he’s got a good first-up record and provided he copes with the ground I’m expecting him to run well.”

Connecticut rounds out our day in the seventh race over 1440 metres.

“He also is untried on a heavy track but he is a winner here at Geelong on soft so provided the ground improves through the day then he should be fine,” Mike said.

“I’m very pleased with him, his work has been good leading into this and all things being equal I do expect him ti run well.”
