A CHOICE FINISH TO OUR SPRING CARNIVAL

Japanese Emperor and Bankers Choice round out our Flemington Spring Carnival today.

Japanese Emperor (pictured) is in the first race over 1600 metres with Damien Oliver to ride and jumping from barrier seven.

“He just keeps improving and his fitness is there now after having been off a long time,” Mike said.

“He galloped nicely on Tuesday in winkers and he’ll race in them today, we’ll leave it up to Ollie as far as tactics are concerned.

“I could not he happier with the horse, he’s tightened up, the ground should not bother him and I think he’s a winning chance.”

Bankers Choice runs in the Champions Mile at Group One level, drawn barrier six with John Allen to ride.

“He’s drawn out a little bit but there are only seven runners and it looks like it will be truly run,” Mike said.

“We thought this was the best option for him and he’s still on fresh legs. His run first-up in the Toorak was excellent then he was a victim of circumstances last start at Moonee Valley, racing wide and copping a check at the wrong time but still not beaten far in a blanket finish.

“I’m expecting them to run it along and if they do happen to go out too fast then it will suit our horse and we know he’s capable of a big finish.”
