CAULFIELD CUP DAY IS HERE

Caulfield Cup day is here and we have three runners including Emissary in the feature.

Jye McNeil is aboard Emissary (pictured) who will jump from barrier four and Mike Moroney is looking for the import to bounce back from a disappointing last start in the Turnbull Stakes.

“He was on and off the bridle last start which is frustrating after he ran so well in the Naturalism,” Mike said.

“Jamie (Kah) said he travelled into it at the top of the straight but then dropped the bridle which is puzzling but he came back fine, we ran all the tests on him the day, he trotted up fine, has worked well since and his gallop on Tuesday was excellent so we present today with him in good order.

“Obviously his best form will have him in the finish, he’s drawn well and the firmer track should ot be an issue so I’m just hoping he can bounce back to his best today.”

Promising filly Coeur Volante runs in race five, the Thousand Guineas Prelude at Group 2 level over 1400 metres.

“She has trained on well since her last start stakes win at Moonee Valley and her piece of work on Tuesday was exceptional,” Mike said.

“The extra distance today is in her favour, my only little concern is the wide draw from the 1400-metre start but it is what it is and we’ll leave that up to Blake.

“She’s a filly we have always had a high opinion of and with ordinary luck I expect her to prove hard to beat.”

Buffalo River is on the quick back-up in race eight, the Moonga Stakes over 1400-metres with Celine Gaudrey again in the saddle.

“He’s on the quick back-up but he is nice and bright in himself,” Mike said. “He’s drawn to advantage and as long as he is alright in himself I’m sure he will give them something to chase down.”
