PACIFIC CROSS IMPRESSES ON DEBUT

Pacific Cross made the best possible start to her career with an impressive debut win at Pakenham tonight.

Next to last along the inside approaching the home turn, Daniel Stackhouse was able to weve a passage through between horses and he had a winning partner, Pacific Cross bursting between fillies inside the final 200 metres to score at the end of the 1200-metre 3YO Fillies Maiden.

Mike Moroney was suitably impressed with the manner of victory from the daughter of Merchant Navy.

“I thought she was impressive, she’s been a bit of a trick getting lost in her 800 metre jumpouts but she was certainly strong through the line there tonight,” Mike said.

“She has always given me the impression she will be better over a little bit further but the promise is certainly there.

“She’s out of a Savabeel mare and we bought her as a yearling at the Easter Sale so there is a bit of upside to her now. Ideally I’d like to get her to carry a bit more condition but we’ll let the dust settle on tonight and see how she pulls up.”

Jockey Daniel Stackhouse was equally impressed.

“She’s always felt as if there’s something there but she’s still so raw. I just let her do her thing early and find her feet early, when I asked her something in the straight she did it all herself and there’s a bit of promise there for sure.” Stacki said.

Mike was also pleased with the debut effort of fellow debutante Burlington Gate finishing fourth.

“I was more than happy, I thought it was a very good run,” Mike said. “I was a bit surprised to see her that far back then she did a little bit wrong and had a nice blow after the race.

“She should come on a lot for tonight and I’m looking forward to her next start. Two nice fillies for the future.”
