GREGOLIMO STEPS OUT AT CAULFIELD

Three Wednesday runners for us at Caulfield today including exciting import Gregolimo in the feature Coongy Cup.

Mike Moroney was more than happy with the way Gregolimo (pictured) performed carrying 61kg at his Australian debut last month at Flemington, finishing a somewhat unlucky second behind Muramasa, beaten one and half lengths and Maktoob, who finished third in the race, franked the formline last Saturday at Caulfield.

“We were very pleased with his Australian debut and he is fitter for today, he raced a bit fresh first-up,” Mike said.

“We’ve done a lot of long, slow work with him, to give him a chance to run in a Caulfield Cup if he does get the win today.

“He got overracing a little bit first up and we’ve added a crossover noseband to his gear to help him and I think Jamie Kah will suit him.”

“He’s done well at home, looks in great order, he won his Listed race in France over 2000 metres and I’m anticipating a big run today.”

Japanese Emperor and Tasman Park are engaged in the same race eight over 1440 metres with Damien Oliver riding Japanese Emperor and Jamie Motton Tasman Park.

“Japanese Emperor has got me scratching my head I will admit, I have expected him to run way better than he has his two runs this time in,” Mike said.

“He looks great, works great but it’s not transferring to race day. I’ve put blinkers and the goat on today so we will see if that makes a difference.

“His best is certainly good enough to be winning.

“Tasman Park went terrific first-up at Flemington to just miss and he gets a big weight drop for today, albeit he is up in class.

“He’s got Jamie (Mott) to help him, winkers on for the first time, he just wandered a bit late on last start and although today represents a class jump for him from a nice barrier I expect him to make his presence felt.”
