GROUP ONE RUNNERS ON GUINEAS DAY

Group One runners for us on Caulfield Guineas day highlighted by Alenquer and Bankers Choice in feature races.

Alenquer runs in the Might And Power, better known as the Caulfield Stakes, where he will be ridden by Mark Zahra and Mike Moroney has been encouraged by the turnaround in the import since being gelded.

“We are very happy with him, he’s come on from his last start where I was far from disappointed with him, he went out hard and was still in front 200 metres out before he got tired,” Mike said.

“His gallop on Tuesday was very good, he looks terrific and his best form is certainly good enough to win it and although he is big odds I can certainly see him running well.:

Bankers Choice runs in the Toorak Handicap under Patrick Moloney and he has also been pleasing Mike in the morning.

“He’s taken good improvement from his first-up run and pleased me in his gallop on Tuesday.

“It looks an open Toorak, even with Amelia’s Jewel engaged, and our horse is ready to run well, particularly if it is truly run and he gets the last ctack at them.”

Our day starts with last start winner Buffalo River (pictured) and Celine Gaudrey maintaining the partnership.

“We’re happy with him and he’s done well since his last start win,” Mike said. “We don’t do a huge amount on the track with him but what we have done has been pleasing.

“The key to him turning his form around last start was removing the ear muffs and they stay off today. It’s a tougher race but if can get an uncontested lead then I expect him to be in it for a long way.”

No Secret runs in the Ladies Day Vase under Jye McNeil.

“I’ll be honest, I was disappointed with her last start when I thought she would run better,” Mike said.

“She’s done well since so there is no reason not to run. The scratchings help with the wide draw and she is good enough to turn her form around.”
