THREE NICE CHANCES AT MORNINGTON TODAY

Three runners for us at Mornington today on Kings Birthday weekend.

Metrical, Wisaka and Mighty Sapphire represent us with Metrical the first to go in the second race over 1200 metres with Blake Shinn aboard.

“He’s well practiced having run in Group races in New Zealand,” Mike said.

“Oddly enough he still has not run a place which is a mystery however, he’s now a gelding and I think he can put that right today.

“He’s trialled up well and with blinkers on he’s ready to go, the barrier is a bit awkward but we’ll leave that up to Blake and with ordinary luck I expect him to run well.”

Jamie Mott is aboard Wisaka in race five over 2025 metres.

“He’s had two runs back now and he’s drawn nicely today which should allow him to be on pace without too much stress,” Mike said.

“The imported horse at the top of the weights is interesting but our horse is fitter, has drawn to advantage and I expect him to run well.”

Mighty Sapphire (pictured) rounds out our day in the eighth race with Ben Melham aboard.

“He’s first-up but I’m happy with the horse and way he has trialled coming into this," Mike said.

"He’s struck what looks a decent quality field but he's drawn to advantage and while whatever he does today I’m expecting him to improve on all things being equal I think he will prove hard to beat.”
