TWO CHANCES AT MORNINGTON TODAY

The stable is double-handed at Mornington today with General Firepower and Setteveli competing.

The consistent General Firepower (pictured) is the first to go in the fifth race over 1600 metres under Jordan Childs.

The four-year-old is deep into the preparation but is holding his condition well Mike Moroney says.

“He’s had a bit of racing but he’s coping with it well and we’re happy with him,” Mike said.

“The scratchings have reduced the opposition to six but it is still a handy field for a mid-week metropolitan meeting.

“I’m happy with the horse, he’s nice and fit and drawn well in five, my one concern is the going, it’s currently rated a soft seven and while he has raced well on soft tracks they are all different and I don’t know how he would handle anything worse than that.

“He’s in good order, drawn to get a good run and I’m sure he will give a good account of himself.”

Setteveli is in race seven over 1200 metres with Blake Shinn aboard.

Setteveli put an uncharacteristic first-up poor run behind him with a strong effort at Bendigo last start and has progressed well since.

“He’s in good order and I’m happy with him,” Mike said. “It’s a big field but fortunately he’s drawn in the middle and has Blake to help him so that is a positive.

“I’m confident he’s good enough to win, in a big field around Mornington he is going to need some luck but if it goes his way then I do think he is a winning chance.”
