MOTHERS DAY AT BALLARAT

Two Sunday runners at Ballarat with Wisaka and General Firepower competing.

Wisaka is the first to go in the fifth race over 2000 metres with Patrick Moloney aboard.

It is the second start this preparation for the five-year-old and Mike Moroney says he is fitter for his first-up run.

“He was fresh and on speed last start before tiring late but he’s fitter for today,” Mike said.

“His racing pattern is on speed and he’s drawn nicely to take advantage of it. It’s a small field so the tempo will be interesting and while whatever he does today he will improve on I’m expecting him to be competitive in a very evenly matched Benchmark 78 race.”

Patrick Moloney is also aboard General Firepower (pictured) in race seven over 1600 metres and he too has drawn nicely in barrier two.

“He’s racing well and he was only swamped late on last time out over 1400 metres at Pakenham,” Mike said.

“He’s trained on well, looks terrific and he’s well-weighted in what does look a handy field. He will need a bit of luck at his first test at the distance but I do think he’s a great winning chance.”
