GENERAL IN COMMAND AT SALE

Mike Moroney thought he had found a good opportunity for General Firepower to get back in the winners’ circle at Sale today and his judgement was vindicated with a comfortable win.

General Power (pictured) scored by nearly four lengths under Jordan Childs at the end of 1400 metres and has Mike looking forward to the future with the son of Better Than Ready.

“I thought it was an impressive win in what was definitely a better than average Friday benchmark race,” Mike said.

“His attitude has improved as he’s got fitter and he’s always had the potential.

“I’ve always thought he was a Saturday class horse, as he’s matured he’s enjoying his racing more and I think there is a bit more to come from him.

“He was dominant today and still improving both physically and mentally so he should be able to be placed to advantage over the next couple of months.”

Mike was also pleased with the effort of German mare Memphis, who finished unplaced in her race but a victim of circumstances.

“I feel for young Tom Prebble, he did the right thing, was following a fancied horse you would expect to take him into the race but it didn’t and by the time he was able to get running the race was over,” Mike said.

“Not his fault, he did the right thing, it just didn't work out. Very happy with the mare, we’ve got her worked out now and I’m looking forward to finding a nice 2500 metre race and then we’ll see the best of her.”
