HOT CHANCES AT HOME

An earlier start than normal at Flemington today for the hot weather and we have Snapper in the feature, Swords Drawn and last start winner Jungle Jim engaged.

Snapper (pictured) runs in the Group 3 Standish Handicap on the straight course with Jye McNeil to ride and Mike Moroney is happy with his progress.

“He wasn’t beaten far here last start and he won here the start before so he’s in good order,” Mike said.

“This is tougher today but he’ll make his own luck on pace and he will not know himself on the minimum weight.

“A firm track will not bother him and he’ll be there for a long way.”

Jungle Jim runs in race eight over the straight 1200 metres and Mike says has done well since his win here on New Year’s Day.

“If anything I think he’s better which he will need to be as he’s up in grade and weight but he’s in good order, fitter now and he will make his presence felt.”

Swords Drawn is the first to go in the fourth race over 2000 metres with Damien Oliver aboard.

“I thought his last start was full of merit and he’s out to a suitable distance today,” Mike said.

“He’s done well since his good run at Flemington over 1600 metres and today does look the right opportunity for him.

“His work has been good, he’s up in grade but he gets a nice weight drop to compensate. My one little concern is a true pace in a small field but all things being equal I expect him to figure in the finish.”
