NEW YEARS DAY AT TE RAPA

Sunday 1 January at Te Rapa

Weather: overcast, track: Good4, rail: out 3 metres.

1:16 p.m. R2 8 Shoes (2 f Derryn – Ambitious Beauty, by Towkay) – Cameron Lammas; won trial with ears pricked on 29 November at Avondale, and did everything right for close debut second in the 2YO 1100 metres here on 10 December. From barrier one, emulation would rate her as a top four chance in the $140,000 Carlaw Park Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m). Fixed odds: $8.50 & $2.10.

1:49 p.m. R3 6 Metrical (3 g Time Test – Affrettando, by Iffraaj) – Cameron Lammas; stepped in class with notable fifth in the Sarten Memorial (Gr. 2, 1400m), but unable to emulate in the Eagle Memorial (Listed, 1500m) on 29 November at Te Rapa. Handily drawn (4) in the $140,000 Jamieson Park Auckland Guineas (Gr. 2, 1600m), he receives an opportunity to bounce back. Fixed odds: $18.00 & $3.80.

3:30 p.m. R6 8 Amoramio (4 m Star Turn – Winton Creek, by Helmet) – Cameron Lammas; ran fastest last 600m (34.6) on day when second in the Rating 65 1200 metres here on 17 December, and contests the $65,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. Not the easiest to position from barrier eight and slightly stronger field, but right trip would make her competitive. Fixed odds: $16.00 & $4.80.

5:13 p.m. R9 10 Dragon Queen (5 m Sweynesse – Happy Endings, by Tavistock) – Cameron Lammas; followed third and second by missing start and recovering with solid effort, given testing conditions, in the J Swap Sprint (Gr. 3, 1400m) here on 10 December. She won the Westbury Classic (Gr. 2, 1400m) last season, good quality mare, but requires luck from wide draw (15) in the $140,000 Rich Hill Mile (Gr. 2, 1600m). Fixed odds: $31.00 & $6.00.

5:13 p.m. R9 12 Tevere (5 m Contributer – Italian Princess, by Bertolini) – Michael McNab; was much better when sixth in the J Swap Sprint (Gr. 3, 1400m) here on 10 December, and contests the $140,000 Rich Hill Mile (Gr. 2, 1600m). Up to mile for first time, won here four times, and ideally drawn (4) to prove competitive. Fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.30. Pictured

5:49 p.m. R10 7 Tia d’Or (6 m Tavistock – Zarvana, by Zabeel) – Cameron Lammas; resumed in the Rating 75 1400 metres on 9 December at Tauranga, where treating like trial and unsuited by wet ground. A staying mare, contesting the $65,000 Rating 65 1600 metres but likely better suited over more ground. Fixed odds: $31.00 & $6.00.

Co-trainer Pam Gerard said: “Shoes performed very well for second here on debut. She has worked up well, has fantastic attitude, and although meeting strong field she benefits by drawing barrier one.”

“Metrical has a line put through his last start, looks fantastic and his work has been good leading into this. We expect him to be suited on a better track.”

“Amoramio ran well last time here for second. She is good in the coat, putting everything into her work and should be suited on better footing. She should be finishing strongly.”

“Dragon Queen has drawn wide (15) making it tough in a strong Group Two field. Her work has been first-class and she appreciates good ground.”

“Tevere is stepping up to a mile for the first time and her racing pattern suggests she will appreciate it. She looks fantastic and we expect her to finishing off strongly.” Pictured

“Tia D’or has been working well and should continue to improve further with this run under her belt. She will increase to a staying trip next start.”
