GROUP 1 RUNNERS ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE SPRING CARNIVAL

A busy Saturday for us with six runners in two states, headed by Roch ’N’ Horse and Bankers Choice in Group 1 contests at Flemington.

Roch ’N’ Horse runs in race five, the Champions Sprint over 1200 metres with Jamie Mott to ride and Mike Moroney is confident she will run better than her price suggests.

“She’s in good order and I’m happy with her,” Mike said. “She missed the run at Moonee Valley which was not ideal but she’s done well since.

“It’s a strong race, possibly as strong a spring field as we have seen. Our mare is under-rated but she is a genuine Group One horse, loves the straight track and I’m sure she will run well

Bankers Choice is in race eight, the Champions Stakes over 2000 metres under John Allen.

“He’s building up to a win and the key for him will be racing on a good surface after striking wet tracks this preparation,” Mike said.

“He’ll love being at Flemington, he’s done well since his good second last start at Moonee Valley and although he’s probably not ideally suited by the weight-for-age conditions I’m looking forward to seeing him on a firmer surface and a bigger track.”

Sound (pictured) is our first to go in race four at Flemington, the Queens Cup over 2600 metres with Jamie Mott aboard.

“He’s in good order, great order in fact and has pleased me since his terrific run in the Caulfield Cup where he was beaten under three lengths,” Mike said.

“The key to his chances will be a truly run race and if it is he’s there to run well and I will not be at all surprised to see him win.”

Tokorangi is in race five, the Matriarch Stakes over 2000 metres with Ethan Brown to ride.

“She’s another of ours who will be better off today on a good surface,” Mike said.

“Her last run was god finishing second at Moonee Valley and she be better off today over 2000 metres.

“Obviously today is a stronger race but she’s fit and ready and there to run well.”

Snapper ends our day at Flemington in the last race over 1100 metres with Jordan Childs riding.

“He’s ended up the top-weight with 61kg after scratchings but he’s fit and well and drawn towards the rail side,” Mike said.

“He’ll be on the speed and his best will be good enough to win it in what looks a pretty even race.”

Milford is in Sydney to run in the Five Diamonds at Rosehill over 1800 metres with Glyn Schofield to ride.

“He’s nice and fit after three runs this time in,” Mike said. “He’s drawn nicely and he’s had experience racing left-handed as a three-year-old.

“It’s a valuable race so it’s a competitive field but he’s dropping back from Group class and with ordinary luck he can run well.”
