Four runners for us today at home on Derby day

Chapada (pictured) runs in race two, the Hotham Stakes, now called the Archer, over 2500 metres with Jamie Mott to ride.

“He’s in good order, really well and his work on Tuesday was terrific,” Mike said. “Soft ground should be ok for him, he’s drawn well, we’ve added blinkers and if he can finish in the first three then he’s into the Cup which will be great.

“We’ve changed jockeys, not that Daniel Stackhouse has done anything wrong, but we thought that with blinkers on and a different jockey it might just wake him up a little bit.”

Elkington Road is the first to go in race one, the Carbine Club Stakes over 1600 metres with Jamie Mott to ride.

The son of All Too Hard is back in class after finishing unplaced in the Caulfield Guineas last time out.

“I was not at all disappointed with his run in the Guineas,” Mike Moroney said. “He got caught up along the fence from barrier two and then got swamped late but was beaten less than two lengths.

“He’s drawn 11 today so ideally he can settle with some cover and then it’s up to Jamie to get him home.

“I’m pleased with the horse and the way he’s trained on, the ground shouldn’t be a problem having won on heavy at his first two starts and with ordinary luck I think he will run well.”

Catalyst runs in race five, the Linlithgow Stakes with Mark Zahra aboard.

“I’ve left him in on a Soft track which should be ok,” Mike said. “It’s an even race and if he turns up today at his best I’d be confident.

“His fitness levels are good, he’s nice and bouncy and in the right race if he can find his best.”

Poland is also in the Linlithgow with Craig Newitt to ride from the outside barrier.

“I’m happy to run him on a soft track and today should be the best of the week so we’ll send him around,” Mike said.

“He’s in with no weight compared to his race on Tuesday so today looks the better option. He’s in good order, I’ve taken the blinkers off him and he’s more than capable of running well.”
