GROUP 1 DAY AT HOME

Poland, Milford, Chapada and Roch ’N’ Horse run for us today on a Group 1 day at home.

Chapada and Milford both run in the feature Group 1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000 metres with Daniel Stackhouse aboard Chapada and Patrick Moloney on Milford.

It is the third run this preparation for Chapada (pictured) and Mike Moroney suggests there are several factors in his favour today.

“The horse is very well, nice and bright and in terrific order,” Mike said. “He ran third in this race behind Incentivise and I think he’s well-weighted under the race conditions.

“It’s a strong race with plenty of chances but I do think our horse can run a big race,”

Milford spoiled his chances by over-racing last start over 1700-metres and Mike is hoping for a truly run race today.

“He just went too keen last start which didn’t help and ideally in a quality race today there will be a true pace which gives him a better chance,” Mike said.

“He’s done well on the track since and while it’s a step up in class for him he is capable of running well at big odds.”

Roch ’N’ Horse is in the seventh race, the Group 3 Gilgai Stakes over 1200 metres with Patrick Moloney in the saddle.

“She looks magnificent and I can’t fault her in appearance and in her work,” Mike said. “I thought she was terrific without winning last start and she certainly seems to like racing on this straight track.

“This has been a target race for her, she’s in great order and I expect her to be hard to beat.”

Poland is the first to go in the second race, the Paris Lane Stakes over 1400 metres.

“He’s second up today and I must admit I though he would run a bit better than he did down the straight first-up,” Mike said.

“He has worked well since and is better suited today, it’s just a pity about the outside barrier. That said he’s going around on the minimum weight so he should be running well today.”
