BUSY DAY AT HOME TODAY

We have a busy day at home today with Bermadez, Milford, Poland, Roch ’N’ Horse, The Good Fight and Tokorangi running for us at Flemington.

Last year’s Easter Cup winner Milford is the first to go in the second race over 1700 metres with Patrick Moloney riding from barrier 12 which has dampened Mike Moroney’s enthusiasm a little.

“He’s drawn the outside which is not ideal but I’m really happy with him, his work and jump outs have been terrific and he’s really turned the corner since being gelded.

“The draw makes things awkward but this horse is going that well that if Patrick can get some luck and a clear passage then I’m expecting him to run well.”

Bermadez runs in race four over 1400 metres with Daniel Stackhouse aboard from barrier nine.

“He’s pleased us coming into this and he’s tackling the strongest field he’s met first-up,” Mike said.

“I’m sure he’s going to be in the finish, he will not be disadvantaged by the soft ground but if he can make a clean start and maybe sneak forward into a good position I think he’s a winning chance.”

The Good Fight is in the sixth race over 2500 metres with Jamie Mott aboard.

“We will find out today if he’s going to be competitive this spring as it’s an extremely strong race but our horse is as well as we can get him and he looks super. The ground will suit him and I’m expecting him to run well in what has come up a strong race.”

Tokorangi runs in race seven, the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes over 1400 metres with Daniel Stackhouse riding and drawn barrier 11.

“The draw is awkward but she is going very well and I’m happy with her,” Mike said. “I’m hopeful of her in the ground as she’s unproven in it and as long as they run along at a good tempo she has a big finish and I can see her running well in a strong race as you would expect.”

“It’s different ground today from when she won the Newmarket and we will not know about her in this soft ground until we try,” Mike said. “I can’t fault her, her work has been good, she looks super and we know she is well up to winning so provided she copes with the soft ground she’s there with a winning chance.”

Poland will jump from barrier eight under Craig Newitt and he too has pleased at home. “It’s a genuine Group Two field and I know he’s got the ability. His attitude is getting better with the time since being gelded and he gets in with a nice weight so he is definitely an each-way chance in a strong race.”
