NICE CHANCES ON THE LAKESIDE COURSE TODAY

Three runners for us at Sandown today including Elkington Road making his debut in the first race on the Lakeside course.

The three-year-old son of All Too Hard has prepared with two jump outs and Mike Moroney says is ready to debut.

“His last jump out was solid, he finished second to an older horse of Danny O’Brien’s and he’s done well since then,” Mike said.

“He’s a horse we bought at the Melbourne Sale, we trained his dam Sherbet Bomb and she finished second on debut and won her second start.

“The field has cut up to only five including him, it’s a good course to get him started, my one query is the heavy ground but he’s a horse I’ve got a bit of time for and this looks a good race to kick him off.”

Star Of Eden (pictured) is in the fourth race for fillies and mares over 1600 metres with Craig Newitt aboard and to jump from barrier one.

“It’s a hard race to get a read on with the heavy ground, our mare is unproven in it as are most of her rivals,” Mike said.

“She’s drawn nicely and ideally we’ll try and take advantage of that, the race suits and provided she can cope with the going I’m expecting her run well as she ticks a few boxes.”

Nordic has his fourth start this preparation in race five over 1600 metres under Logan McNeil and also drawn in barrier one.

“He’s fit and well in what looks a handy sort of benchmark race and I’d say he’s as well as can be,” Mike said.

“I hope the inside barrier is not a problem with this ground but our horse is well and he’s certainly going to be competitive with the right sort of run.”
