TWO SATURDAY RUNNERS FOR US

Two chances for us today with Our Birdsong gaining a start at Ipswich and German mare Memphis making her Australian debut at Flemington.

Our Birdsong (pictured) runs in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes over 1350 metres with Samantha Collett aboard and Mike Moroney is happy the daughter of Snitzel gets a chance to chase some important stakes form.

“It’s good she’s made the field and she jumps from barrier three which is a real plus around Ipswich,” Mike said.

“She’s got the blinkers back on to help her and she should be able to settle on the speed on a soft surface which is ideal.

“She’s trained on well and while acknowledging it’s a strong race it will be terrific is she can put her best hoof forward and sneak some all important black type.”

Closer to home Memphis runs in race eight over 1630 metres with Laura Lafferty in the saddle.

“The ground will suit her and her race is later in the day so it will have improved by then,” Mike said.

“The distance today is short of her best but she’s a lovely mare, she looks terrific and is in good order so it’s a good starting point.

“The wide draw is not ideal but the plan will be to let her balance up and then it’s up to her but it’s a nice race to get her started with as we aim to get her out in trip.”
