GROUP ONE SATURDAY

The stable is in great form and today we have four runners on a Group 1 Saturday at Caulfield, headed by Tofane bidding for her fifth win at the elite level in the Futurity Stakes.

Tofane (pictured) resumed with a dominant win in the C F Orr Stakes over today’s course and distance and Mike Moroney says the mare has improved since.

“She’s bounced out of that run and she’s in great order, I can’t fault her,” Mike said.

“Her fitness levels are good and she’s nice and bright.

“Today will be a bit different to her last start but provided there is no bad luck then I think she will be hard to beat again.”

Poland is our other Group One runner when he resumes in the Oakleigh Plate over 1100 metres with Michael Poy aboard.

“He’s come back a different horse as a gelding and it has improved him a lot,” Mike said.

“His attitude is completely different, his work and jump outs have been good and we’ve taken the blinkers off.

“He’s in well at the weights, ideally they will go hard and that gives him a chance but I will not be surprised to see him get home over the top of them.”

Another horse back as a gelding is English King who runs in the last race of the day, the Mornington Cup Prelude over 2000 metres with Jye McNeil riding.

“He’s going well and a different horse after the gelding, he’s a pleasure to work with,” Mike said.

“His piece of work on Tuesday was terrific and I feel the distance today is the right way to get him started.

“Hard to know how the speed will be but if he runs up to his looks and his work then I do think he will run well.”

Emissary resumes in the Peter Young Stakes over 1800 metres with Mark Zahra to ride.

“It’s a good kick off point for him and the scratchings have certainly helped us,” Mike said.

“He’s lesser exposed, he’s fit enough to run well first-up and I’m very happy with him, his work has been excellent and while he’s not ideally placed under the weight-for-age conditions I’m looking for him to run well.”
