KIWI IMPORTS TO BOOST FLEMINGTON STABLE

The Flemington stable will be bolstered by the arrival of high-class sprinting mare Roch ’N’ Horse later this month as well as an exciting new purchase for the team.

The daughter of Per Incanto has raced out of Ballymore's Matamata stable with good effect, with three wins and four placings to her name from just 12 starts.

The five-year-old just missed catching Levante when second in the Group 1 Telegraph at Trentham in world record time for the 1200m last month and Mike is pondering a tilt at the Oakleigh Plate on February 26.

“She is going to come over on February 23. Unfortunately the planes to Melbourne out of New Zealand have been held up a little bit because of delays caused by Chinese New Year,” Moroney said.

“We have got her in the Oakleigh Plate but we are not 100 percent sure we are going to run in that. We will just see how she travels.

“The other thought pattern is we give her a trial up the straight here on the Friday and go straight to the Newmarket on March 12.

“Then we would probably give her a bit of a freshen and head to the Sangster and the Goodwood in Adelaide - they would be the three or four possible races for her.”

“There are so many sprint races on here in Australia, they are going to be reasonably spread and in the handicaps Roch ‘N’ Horse gets in quite well.

“I think she will be pretty competitive over here in those sort of races.”

Ballymore is the new trainer of Bankers Choice, a rapid improver who has won five of his past six starts in New Zealand for Cambridge-based trainer Stephen Marsh.

"The owners have retained a share in him but we've bought the majority of him, we have bought him mainly for Australians but there was 20 percent sold to New Zealanders as well," Mike explained said.

A son of Mongolian Khan, Bankers Choice will fly into Melbourne on February 23, with Mike anticipating his Australian debut shortly later.

"Stephen Marsh will look after him until then and send him over and then I'll give him one gallop and then probably run him because I'm keen on running him in the Blamey Stakes, which is a ticket into The All-Star Mile," Mike said said.

"I would think the Doncaster Mile would fit him as well because that race is a handicap as opposed to The All-Star Mile, which is weight-for-age," Moroney said.

The $300,000 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) will be held at Flemington on March 5, two weeks before the $5m All-Star Mile over the same course.
