WINNING RUN CAN CONTINUE AT COLAC

Iridessa and Commanding Reign attempt to keep our winning run continuing when they race at Colac today.

Laybuy won at Sandown on Wednesday and Ocean Chief at Pakenham last night to give the stable a kick along ahead of a Group One day on Saturday.

Commanding Reign is the first to go in the first race, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1200 metres with Robbie Downey aboard and Mike says is a much stronger horse this preparation.

“Robbie rode him in his jumpout and liked him so he will suit,” Mike said.

“The horse is a lot stronger this time around and is handling things a lot better as a gelding. He’s drawn barrier six after scratchings and we’d like to try and take advantage of that if we can.

“It’s hard to get a real guide on the opposition but we can only worry about our own horse and the way he is training it will not surprise me at all to see him run well.”

Last start Iridessa (pictured) runs in race four over 2000 metres and has done well since her win at Yarra Valley last month.

“I can’t fault her,” Mike said. “She looks terrific, has trained on strongly since the win and is drawn ideally in barrier one after the scratching.

“It’s a similar circuit to Yarra Valley, Michael Poy rides again and I think she’s a great winning chance today.
