GEAR CHANGE FOR HEAVY DUTY TODAY

Heavy Duty gets a chance to break his maiden at Ballarat today.

Heavy Duty runs in race four, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1400 metres with Jordan Childs aboard and Mike Moroney has employed a gear change.

“He’s always looked like he needed them and after he came off the bridle quickly last start I decided it was time to use them,” Mike said.

“We’ve tried him in them at home and his work has been improved.

“He’s fitter today following his first-up run at Moe over 1200 metres and he meets the filly that finished second in that race again today.

“He’s drawn nicely in five, with natural fitness and some improvement from the blinkers then I expect him to be hard to beat.”

Wisaka is our other runner at the meeting in race eight, the benchmark 64 Handicap over 2000 metres with Jamie Mott aboard.

"He's racing well and in good order," Mike said. "He's been in the money all three of his starts this preparation at Sandown and this looks a nice race for him.

"The wide draw is not ideal but I can't fault the horse and a repeat of his last start should see him hard to beat."
