Two for two!

Friday was a great day for the stable, two runners – two winners with Renegade Arrow impressive breaking his maiden by a wide margin and Oneman Wolfpack finding the line in game fashion to record his second career victory from just nine starts.

Having his first run since mid-June, the lightly raced four-year-old was sent out favourite, duly rewarding his supporters with a convincing victory.

Slightly slowly away and ending up further back that he has been at previous outings, the gelding travelled well regardless, Lisa Cropp moving him steadily through the field.

Hooking out wide at the turn, Oneman Wolfpack still had a few lengths to pick up but he was very strong over the final stages – saluting by nearly half a length with a fair bit in hand.

“I was expecting a big run from him,” Cropp said – “he has always shown a lot of promise and he is upwards and onwards now.”

Raced by the Lorne Bloodstock Syndicate, Michael Krauser, Peter Anastasiou, Jordon Mason, Caroline Grainger, Adam Williams, Simon Rutz, Dean Higgins and the Ballymore Stables Aust Syndicate, Oneman Wolfpack is a $50,000 Melbourne Premier graduate.

A son of the excellent broodmare, the two times Gr.3 placed Te Akau Star, he is a half brother to the Group winning mares Piper Star and Melora from a strong international family.

Hopefully the winning run will continue at Flemington on Saturday, Ballymore saddling up three nice chances – Shenzhou Steeds, Platinum Passion (pictured) and Hiphopopotamus.

A strong second after a slightly tardy start when resuming, Shenzhou Steeds was a Listed winner during the Queensland carnival and he has drawn nicely in the Visit Victoria Handicap – Chad Ormsby to take the ride from barrier 3.

Platinum Passion was game after making the pace against the males in the Gr.3 David Jones Cup at Caulfield at her latest outing and she strips all the fitter back against her own sex in the Gr.2 Matriarch Stakes.

Kerrin McEvoy has a good affinity with the well related five-year-old and hopefully this is the day the three times stakes placegetter enhances her broodmare value with a black type victory.

Stayer Hiphopopotamus is down to resume in the Emirates Airlines Handicap – the last race of the VRC carnival – but as third emergency will need a bit of luck to get a run.

Whilst his best form is over longer trips, it is worth noting that he has been in the placings at his last two fresh runs over 1400m, albeit in easier provincial grade.
