TORONTO TERRIER DEBUTS AT CAULFIELD

Three runners for us at Caulfield’s twilight meeting including Toronto Terrier on debut.

Toronto Terrier (pictured) is in race one for two-year-olds over 1200 metres with Jye McNeil aboard.

Mike Moroney believes the Toronado half-brother to VRC Derby winner Extra Brut will be better over a bit further but is ready to go to the races.

“We are particularly pleased with him but he is a work in progress,” Mike said.

“He’s performed well in the short course jump outs here at Flemington and he’s ready to go to the races.

“He’s come along way this preparation and there’s a lot more to come, my only little reservation about today is that it will be a truly run race with the small field but our colt is a lovely horse and it’s a good time to get him started off.”

Last start winner Shiriki runs in race three over 1100 metres for three-year-old fillies with Jye McNeil to ride.

“She’s done well since the win at Moe and barrier one should be a positive as she can fly the gates,” Mike said.

“Like Jungle Jim she’s struck a solid looking race with five of the eight runners last start winners but with natural improvement she should be figuring in the finish and a win would not surprise me.”

Jungle Jim rounds out our day in race eight over 1200 metres and Jamie Mott in the saddle.

“He comes into this in good form having won his last two starts and I’m happy with him,” Mike said.

“It’s a pretty handy benchmark race with four last start winners engaged including our horse.

“The low barrier is a plus as he races on speed. He’s still quite inexperienced with today just his fourth start but he certainly deserves to be in the field and I’m sure he will give them something to chase.”
