Ballymore's Oaks Day

The Ballymore team heads to Oaks Day with two nice runners whilst we celebrate the anniversary of the recently retired Brazilian Pulse's runaway VRC Oaks victory.

The day starts early for us with talented grey Dead End taking his place in the opening event, the La Vie En Rose Vase over 1800m.

To be ridden by Damien Oliver from barrier 11, the lightly raced five-year-old had no luck at all at his most recent outing when a close up sixth as favourite at Geelong - held up for much of the run home.

"He went to the line full of running," said Michael Moroney who has been happy with the gelding's progress since.

"He is not the soundest horses to train and he doesn't carry a lot of condition which is why he has been sparingly raced - but we have always had a big opinion of him and we do think he is a Group class horse."

"He should prove very, very hard to beat on Thursday."

Three-year-old The Deep South is our other Oaks Day runner, linging up in the seventh event, the Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes over 1800m.

Originally aimed at the Derby, the son of Darci Brahma didn't stay the 2200m of the Geelong Classic at his most recen touting and has been freshened for the drop back in distance.

"It is not an overly strong race for a Listed event," Moroney said, "so he should be right in the finish."
