Ocean Chief is the first to go in the third race over 1300 metres with Damien Oliver aboard and Mike Moroney

“I’m very happy with the horse and the way he has trained on - his work has been terrific and he hasn’t put a foot wrong since his arrival at Flemington.

“The scratchings help with the barrier and this looks the right sort of race for him. Unless there is something really smart amongst the unraced runners then I will be disappointed if he is not the horse to beat.”

Wisaka (pictured) runs in race six over 1800 metres with Jamie Mott to ride again.

“I thought he went terrific first-up to just miss here at Sandown over 1500 metres and he’ll be suited by the trip today,” Mike said.

“It’s the same benchmark 64 class and from barrier one he should be able to race handy which looks the right place in this race.

“He’s done well since his last start and all things being equal today then I think he is a good winning chance.”

The Commoner goes in race eight over 1000 metres and taking advantage of the claim for Josh Richards

“She’s finally drawn a barrier and that will be a big help,” Mike said.

“It looks a typically competitive Sandown sprint over the fast 1000 metre Sandown course - she’s as well as we can get her and from the draw she should get a lovely run.

“If that is the case then I think she will be hard to beat.”
