Hoping for an Awesome 1000 Guineas Day

Further Caulfield spring carnival action on Wednesday and we saddle up two nice horses on 1000 Guineas Day.

First up for us is Absolutelyawesome who contests The Orion Cruise Cup, the fifth race on the card – a 1600m 0-89 ratings event.

Catching the eye with two good runs this preparation, third on both occasions – the lightly raced and promising four-year-old looks nicely primed to show his best with Glyn Schofield to take the ride.

“He has had some foot issues,” Michael Moroney said, “but he seems to be over them now and he has been working well – we are very happy with him.”

Always well regarded by the stable, the son of Zenno Rob Roy tackled feature races during the autumn carnival and was a close up fourth in Ilovethiscity’s Randwick Guineas back in March.

Comeback galloper King Pulse is our second runner for the day, due to take his place in the final event, the BMW Handicap over 1200m.

Having his first run since early June, having campaigned in Queensland over the winter, the high class sprinter has been below his best since his well publicized accident on Newmarket Handicap day last year.

He has however been very well this time in, his coat boasting a nice shine and his attitude good.

“It has the best he has been since the accident,” Moroney said. “We are really happy with him – he is very relaxed and I think the travelling did him the world of good.”

At his best King Pulse should prove hard to toss, the lightly raced five-year-old only just beaten in the Gr.1 Coolmore on Derby Day two years ago.
