AUSTRALIAN DEBUT FOR EMISSARY TODAY

Our English import Emissary makes his Australian debut at Sandown today.

Emissary (pictured) runs in the last race of the day, the benchmark 78 handicap over 1800m and Craig Williams aboard.

The son of Kingman won his last start over 2300 metres in England last September and goes to the races today as a gelding.

Mike Moroney has given Emissary plenty of time to acclimatise.

“I’m happy with him, he’s improved quickly off his last jumpout and tightened up fitness wise which he needed to,” Mike said.

“Tackling 1800 metres first-up is an ask but he’s a horse with class and he’s improving all the time.

“The Sandown track should suit him and this is a good circuit to start him off - there are some other interesting imports in the race so it’s just good to get him going and whatever he does today he will improve on.”

Snapper is our other runner in race four, the benchmark 78 handicap over 1000m with Jye McNeil riding and jumping from the outside barrier seven.

It is the first start this preparation for Snapper who has trialled sharply leading into today.

“The barrier is not too much of an issue as it’s a run downhill then one turn,” Moroney said.

“He’s got a lot of early speed and he can cross and lead if Jye chooses to.

“The horse has retained his speed but he’s more relaxed this time around he has been impressive in his two jumpouts.

“If he runs up to his jumpouts I think he’ll be very hard to beat.”
