KENTUCKY RULER DEBUTS AT WANGARATTA

Two runners for us at Wangaratta on Monday including Kentucky Ruler on debut.

Kentucky Ruler is in race one, the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1170m with Fred Kersley riding from barrier nine after scratchings.

The son of Shalaa has prepared with jumpouts at home and Mike Moroney says is ready for competition.

“He’s had some practice at home and is ready for the races,” Moroney said. “His last jumpout was in a mixed heat against some proven older horses and he held his own without being put under full pressure.

“He’s in a big field with a lot of others on debut so it’s hard to know but he’s been professional at home so I’m confident he will handle the occasion.

“Fred has been on him at home so knows him and I’ll be happy as long as he has a good experience today and can run a nice race.”

Chawinda is our other runner in race eight, the benchmark 58 handicap over 1170m and also to be ridden by Fred Kersley.

“We’ve taken the blinkers off her, the question mark is the heavy going,” Moroney said.

“She’s jumped out on a rain affected surface so we need to give her a chance on it.

“She bombed the start in blinkers last time but from the nice draw today she should be able to race handy and I’m expecting her to be competitive.”
