TOFANE BIDDING FOR MORE GROUP 1 GLORY

Three runners for us today headed by Tofane in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm.

Tofane (pictured) will jump from barrier 10 in the 1400m contest under Craig Williams and has thrived since her last start according to Mike Moroney.

“I’m in no doubt she’s in the best form since she won the All Aged Stakes, she will just need a touch of luck,” Moroney said.

“Everything about her is spot on - her weight, blood, work and I could not be happier with her condition going into the race.

“I’m anticipating it being a fast run race which should see her settling midfield and provided she can make an uninterrupted run at them in the home straight I’m she is going give a great sight and it will be terrific to get another Group 1 win with her.”

Hang Man is our other runner at Eagle Farm in race five, the first running of the Q22 over 2200m, formerly the P J O’Shea Stakes.

“He’s been up a while but looking at photos and video of him during the week he’s nice and bright and his work has been excellent,” Moroney.

“Ideally he can be a bit closer than he was last start where he gave them a big start.

“Clearly Zaaki is the horse to beat but our horse is there and in good order - it’s a horse race and anything can happen.”

Closer to home and Salt Bay travels to Sandown to run in race four, the benchmark 78 handicap over 1300m with Fred Kersley in the saddle on a heavy (9) track)

Salt Bay has improved since her Australian debut at Caulfield where she had no luck in the home straight.

“It looks an even field and we’ll try and have her a little bit closer than she was last start in the lower class today,” Moroney said.

“She’s been up a little while but she didn’t really have a hard run last start.

“My one little concern is the heavy track but provided she copes with that and runs up to her last start form then I think she’ll be very hard to beat.”
