HANDY TRIO AT BENDIGO TODAY

Three runners at Bendigo for us today with Ice Burj, Scissors and Michigan taking part.

Ice Burj is the first to on race three, drawn barrier four in the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1100m with Jamie Mott in the saddle.

It is the first start for Ice Burj however, the son of Pride Of Dubai has been well schooled.

“He’s had a bit of practice but he’s not quite 100% bombproof,” Mike Moroney said.

“He’s a big powerful gelding but he still thinks it’s all a bit of a game - today will be good for him. He’s shown me ability but it’s a case of getting him to concentrate.

“Bendigo is a lovely track to get him started and he’s drawn a race with nine others also on debut so it’s difficult to weigh it up.”

Scissors runs in race seven, the 3yo Fillies benchmark 64 handicap over 1300m and Daniel Stackhouse riding from barrier four.

“I’m happy with her, she’s done well since her debut win over 1200 metres at Kyneton,” Moroney said. “Ideally we’d have run over 1400m but this race was available.

“We haven’t done a huge amount with her as she is still strengthening and I’m mindful of not overtaxing her. Today is obviously a harder race however, if she can repeat her debut performance where she won nicely at then I’d say she will be hard to beat.”

Michigan (pictured) is the last to go in race eight, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1300m with Mark Zahra aboard from barrier one.

“We’re very happy him, he’s had a tick over jump out since his first-up win at Sandown last month and he’s right for today,” Moroney.

“He’s up in class but I’m sure he’s up to it, my one little concern is the inside barrier but provided he can have ordinary luck then we’re going into the race with a bit of confidence.”
