DEBUTANTS DAY AT SALE

Two runners on debut for us at Sale today.

Lightfast is the first to go in race one, the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1212m with Jye McNeil aboard from barrier one.

The son of Dundeel out of a half-sister to French Group 1 winner Spanish Moon, has surprised Mike Moroney a little.

“He’s shown us some speed in his jumpouts and has won one leading all the way,” Moroney said.

“He’s found a decent contest for his first start but we wanted to run at a lovely big track like Sale. The inside barrier will be a plus and ideally we’d like to teach him to settle and relax.

“He’s a really nice colt that we like a lot and it will be interesting to see how he goes today. There’s a bit of form in the race as well as some well-bred first starters like him but I’m expecting him to run well.”

Madagascar Miss runs in race two, the 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate over 1112m and also to be ridden by Jye McNeil.

The daughter of Rubick has won a barrier trial in New Zealand and has nice ability according to Mike Moroney.

“She’s drawn barrier five which is nice enough,” Moroney said. “She’s led all the way to win a trial in New Zealand and if she can fly the gates here that gives her a chance to do that.

“As with Lightfast she’s shown us good ability and is up against some first starters and there is a bit of form in the race so it’s difficult to be too confident. Her jumpouts here have been good and her last piece of work was pleasing.

“We’re going into the race with a little bit of confidence and she’s definitely an each-way chance.”
