FEATURE RUNNERS IN SYDNEY TODAY

Two runners for us in Sydney today with Poland and Buffalo River engaged while Hang man is scratched from Moonee Valley to wait for the Yarra Valley Cup tomorrow.

Poland (pictured) is the first to go in race six, the Phar Lap Stakes over 1500m with Kerrin McEvoy aboard and drawn barrier one.

The son of So You Think resumed with a dominant win in the Gr2 Autumn Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield and Mike Moroney reports has settled in well in Sydney.

“He’s travelled up well and settled in, eating and drinking and doing everything right,” Moroney said.

“He had a strong gallop here on Tuesday and his recovery was good so despite the gap in races I’m confident he’s fit enough.

“He’s in good order, drawn well and the only little question in my mind is the five week gap between runs after missing his race in the Australian Guineas when getting his leg up pre-race in the tie-up stalls.

“The track is still rated good (4) which will suit and from the draw he can be positive and be on speed and I think he’s a great winning chance.”

Buffalo River is in race eight, the Ajax Stakes over 1500m with James McDonald aboard and jumping from barrier four.

Buffalo River finished a game third last time out in the Blamey Stakes over 1600m at Flemington after going out hard in the lead.

“He’s also arrived in great shape, settled in and relaxed which is important for him,” Moroney said.

“His fitness levels are good it’s just a case of the speed he can travel at and not get stressed early. I’d say from the draw he can probably lead but it’s not the only way he can race.

“If he can get an economical run then I think he too is a great winning chance.”
