WINNING CHANCES AT HEADQUARTERS TODAY

Milwaukee, Hang Man and Alburq bid to keep our winning run continuing at Flemington today after a double at Geelong on Friday.

Hang Man gets our day started in race five, the Open Handicap over 1600m with Jye McNeil to ride and drawn barrier six.

Mike Moroney gave the import a short break after his last start seventh in the Werribee Cup where he carried 60.5kg.

“He’s had a little freshen up and his gallop on Tuesday was pleasing,” Moroney said.

“It does not look the strongest of races and I’m banking on the freshen-up working for him, even though the trip is as short as he wants it.

“He drops a lot in weight for today’s race and if they do run along and make it truly run, he only has to produce his best to be a winning chance.”

Milwaukee (pictured) begins a new preparation in race seven, the Listed Kensington Stakes over 1000m Fred Kersley riding.

“He’s had a couple of jumpouts to have him ready and he worked nicely here on Tuesday with Alburq,” Moroney said.

“It’s a small field but it does look extremely competitive.

“He usually takes a run or two to reach his peak and he loves the straight course so although he’s meeting a race hard field this is a good place to get him started off, especially on a course he loves.”

Alburq runs in race nine, the benchmark 84 handicap over the straight 1200m with Lachlan King reducing the weight to 52.5kg and drawn barrier one.

“He’s trained on well since his narrow defeat last start and I can’t fault him - his work here on Tuesday with Milwaukee was excellent,” Moroney said.

“It’s a stronger race today but he drops a lot in weight and after Lachlan’s claim he gets into the race extremely well.

“The small field will make this a tricky race tactically but he’s in good form and a repeat of his last start should have him hard to beat.”
