Whittington Stone and Rocking Eagle are our Wednesday runners at Sandown and Wangaratta.

Whittington Stone is in race eight at Sandown, the benchmark 70 handicap over 1400m with Jake Noonan in the saddle and drawn barrier 10.

Whittington Stone (pictured) ran his usual brave race last time out when second over 1200m at Sandown and Mike Moroney believes can go one better today.

“He’s done well and improved for the last start,” Moroney said.

“My only concern is that he’s in the last race and there is a possibility the track might be showing some wear by then as if does begin quickly and cross to race on the speed.

“If that did happen to be the case I’d have no issue with riding him back and he’s drawn the right barrier for that but we'll assess it during the day.

“The track is my only concern as he’s in good form and with ordinary luck I expect him to be hard to beat.”

Rocking Eagle is in race seven at Wangaratta, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1400m with Daniel Stackhouse aboard.

“The track has come up good which is a relief as I would have scratched had it come up soft,” Moroney said.

“I’ve added the nose roll to him and he’s been wearing it in his work - I’ve done a bit with him and he’s nice and fit.

“He has been disappointing his last couple of starts but he’s fitter today and will have no excuses. If he brings his best then that is certainly good enough to win here.”
