Day and night runners for us on Friday at Geelong and Moonee Valley including Kaituku on debut.

Kaituku is the first to go in race three at Geelong, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1300m with Jamie Kah in the saddle.

The son of Contributer has pleased Mike Moroney but is still learning his craft according to his trainer.

“He’s drawn out which is a little bit awkward but I’d rather him out there than in tight,” Moroney said.

“He’s still a bit raw but he’s shown us ability and he’ll make a horse in time I’m sure but he’s still got a bit to learn and today is a good starting point for him,

“He’s struck what looks to be a strong field but as long as our horse has a nice experience I can see him running home and taking a lot from the race.”

My Diamonds Galore is in race six at Geelong, the benchmark 58 handicap over 1700m with Jordan Childs to ride from barrier six.

I’m really happy with her - she’s nice and fit and the last piece of work we did with her was pleasing,” Moroney said.

“She’s building to a win as her last start third over 1765 metres at Geelong showed and she drops in weight today.

“She’s drawn to be able to race on speed and it does not look the strongest of races so I think definitely looks a chance for her to be winning and she’s definitely an each-way chance.”

Our Birdsong (pictured) is our evening runner in race three at Moonee Valley, the benchmark 70 handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m with Lachlan King to ride.

“It’s a small field and most of them are also claiming so it’s an even lot,” Moroney said.

“She’s trained on well since her last start third at Sandown - there looks a bit of early pressure so she might end up sitting just behind them.

“It’s a handy race but with the way she’s going I do think she will be hard to beat.”
