WINNING CHANCES ON FRIDAY NIGHT

Cutting Loose and Whittington Stone are our Friday night runners at Cranbourne.

Cutting Loose runs in race one, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1500m with Jordan Childs in the saddle.

The son of Spirit Of Boom made up ground in the home straight last time out when fifth over 1400m at Pakenham and Mike Moroney is expecting a positive performance tonight.

“We’ve drawn a nice barrier which is a real plus and there does not look a huge amount of speed in the race,” Moroney said.

“Ideally we’ll try to take advantage of the draw and be positive, I’m not sure he possesses a big turn of foot so he’s best to be on the speed.

“The filly that he finished fifth behind last start was not disgraced at Sandown on Wednesday and I’m expecting him to be suited by the extra distance of tonight’s race.

“He's nice and fit and looks terrific so he’s there with an each-way chance.”

Whittington Stone (pictured) resumes in race seven, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1200m with Jake Noonan aboard and jumping from barrier five after scratchings.

“His jumpouts have been pleasing and I think he’s forward enough to run well in what looks an even sort of race,” Moroney said.

“He always runs well first-up and should be able to lead or be on the lead from the draw. While he will be better for the run it will not surprise me at all to see him win.”
