A BUSY DAY AT SANDOWN

Five runners for us today in competitive races on the Hillside course at Sandown.

Greydotcom starts a new campaign in race one, the Maiden Plate over 1400m with Jordan Childs to ride from barrier 11.

Mike Moroney said the four-year-old son of Dalakhani has come back a stronger horse this time in.

“We’ll go back from that draw and let him balance up and run home. He’s come back a stronger horse and it’s difficult to know what to expect from him but this is a nice course to get him started,” Moroney said.

“It’s a decent enough field which you would expect for the level of prizemoney on offer but I’ll be happy to see him running on and showing us something now that he’s physically stronger.”

Last start winner Our Birdsong is in race four, the fillies and mares Benchmark 70 handicap over 1400m with Lachlan King’s claim reducing the weight to 59kg.

“We’ve helped her a bit with the claim and from the draw she should be able to push forward,” Moroney said.

“It does look a nice race for her - she’s trained on nicely from the win at Geelong, she gets her chance today and I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t run well.”

The Boy Wonder and Lady In The Sky are both contesting race five. the benchmark 64 handicap over 2400m.

Fred Kersley is aboard Lady In The Sky (pictured) from barrier 12 in the big field and Moroney has made a gear change for today.

“We’ve taken the blinkers off her and I’ve always thought she’d be at her best over a trip,” Moroney said.

“Now that we’ve got her out in distance she doesn’t need the blinkers to get her travelling and although it is a big field I’m sure she will run well.”

Last start Wodonga winner The Boy Wonder has Lachlan King to ride and has drawn barrier one.

“He gets a chance I think now with the claim so it will be interesting to see if he can get the trip, albeit in a strong race for him compared to what he has been racing against at benchmark 58 level,” Moroney said.

“He’s hard fit and got a couple of things in his favour so today should tell us if he can stay.”

Wham closes out our day in race seven, the benchmark 70 handicap over 1500m with Lachlan King to ride from barrier two.

“We’ve claimed to help him with the weight which gives him his chance I think,” Moroney said.

“He looks well and he’s fitter today so while he’ll need some luck in running from the draw if he can get out into room in the straight then he’s there to run well.”
