SHILO LASS BOUNCES BACK

Shilo Lass justified Mike Moroney’s pre-race confidence with a strong win at Terang today.

Quicky away, Shilo Lass was settled in fourth place by Damien Thornton until the home turn where he was able to peel out into running room, Shilo Lass producing a smart turn of foot to go clear and win the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m) convincingly.

Moroney said in his post this morning the daughter of Foxwedge was fitter and he was expecting her to be hard to beat and so it proved.

“That was more like the mare we know,” Moroney said. “The barrier helped and she got a terrific ride but she still had to do it and the way she accelerated in the straight was pleasing to see.

"Damien said she got there so quick she switched off and he had to stoke her up the last little bit.

“I blame myself for the disappointing first-up run but she was a lot fitter today and it showed.

“She’s in form at the right time and now with the spring over I’d like to think she can be winning again and there should be some opportunities for her in the coming weeks.”

Shilo Lass was purchased for $140,000 as a yearling by Paul Moroney at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
