GROUP 1 DAY FOR US AT CAULFIELD

A big Group 1 day for us with four runners in feature races at Caulfield.

Poland (pictured) runs in the feature race of the day, the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and despite his inexperience, Mike Moroney is confident the son of So You Think will acquit himself well.

“It’s great to have made the race which is the one we’ve aimed at,” Moroney said.

“He’s trained on well since his last start win and I know he’s got the ability to be in a race like this.

“If he jumps on terms I’d say we will try and put him in the race without pushing him. It’s obviously a strong race but if he can overcome his inexperience then I do believe he is a legitimate each-way chance at big odds.”

Buffalo River and Harlech both run in the Toorak Handicap (1600m) with Craig Williams aboard Buffalo River from barrier five.

“We’re planning on letting him roll and lead if possible,” Moroney said. “He’s got into a race where he has a weight advantage being on the minimum and if he can run them along and make the others carry their weight then I think that’s his best chance.

“It’s a field of quality milers and it will be a tactical race so with ordinary luck I know he can look the winner for a long way.”

Harlech has drawn alongside Buffalo River in barrier four with Michael Dee to ride.

“He’s drawn nicely and with only he’s got a few things to help him,” Moroney said.

“Ideally there will be a little bit of give in the ground in contrast to his first-up run. His work has been excellent and he’s peaking for this race.

“It’s a field full of good horses but he’s in well at the weights with 54.5kg and is very well so he’s definitely a winning chance.”

Chapada runs in the last race of the day, the Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m with Daniel Stackhouse in the saddle.

“He’s done terrific since his last start and he looks great,” Moroney said. “We’ve looked at the speed in the race and we’re going to try and be more forward with him today.

“He’s well weighted and with another performance like his excellent last start second then I think he will be hard to beat.”
