WEDNESDAY WEATHER WATCH AT BENDIGO

We take Old Time Rock, Star Surprise, Nerve Not Verve and Midnight Magic to Bendigo on Wednesday and the weather could play a significant role.

The track is listed as good this morning however heavy rain is predicted for the area which would impact some of our horses chances.

Old Time Rock is the first to go in race four the benchmark 64 Handicap over 1100m with Bill Egan to ride from barrier seven after scratchings.

The son of Pride Of Dubai has done well since winning his last start at Ararat on a heavy track.

“The track is currently listed as good but there is rain predicted so if the track did soften it will not affect his chances,” Moroney said.

“He’s trained on well and looks nice and bright. Today looks a stronger race than his last start but if he gets some luck and the rain does arrive I’m sure he well run really well.”

Star Surprise (pictured) begins a new campaign in race five, the benchmark 70 Handicap over 1100m with Campbell Rawiller’s claim reducing the weight to 59kg.

“He’s won of soft ground so if the rain does arrive it will help him,” Moroney said.

“It’s a deep field but our horse is a good horse and looks well, he’s still a bit wintry looking but he’s improving every day.

“He’ll need some luck as he’s a run-on horse and provided he gets a few things his way then I’m sure he can run well.”

Nerve Not Verve is in race seven, the benchmark 70 Handicap over 1600m but to jump from the outside barrier under Michael Dee.

“She’s had the one run back and has done well since, she’s still a tad burly and today will bring her on for sure,” Moroney said.

“Wherever you go at this time of year the competition is strong but she’s going well enough to figure in the finish and if the track did happen to deteriorate than it will only help her chances.”

Midnight Magic closes out the day in race eight, the benchmark 64 Handicap over 1400m under Fred Kersley and also drawn wide.

“It’s her second run back this preparation and the weather will be key as she’s in the last race and if we do the forecast rain then the track could well be affected,” Moroney said.

“It’s a handy race and we’ll keep an eye on how the track is playing but I’d say we’ll ride her back and let her balance up and run home.

“She’s trained on well and is fitter however, if the track did get downgraded significantly I will think about scratching her as she doesn’t have any heavy track form and we can wait for another day.”
