MORE TO COME FROM TRAIL BLAZER

Trail Blazer overcame his own inexperience and the heavy track at Geelong on Thursday to break his Maiden.

Settled one out one back by Mark Zahra, Trail Blazer knuckled down in the home straight and did best in the finish to defeat Newzeel Deal by half a length but probably value for more at the end of the 1443m.

Trail Blazer has been a work in progress and Mike Moroney was delighted to see the son of Dundeel break through.

“I thought it was a really good win,” Moroney said. “He settled with the blinkers on and then when Mark asked him to go in the straight he lost his shape a bit.

“Mark was able to balance him up and I thought the best part of the race was through the line. Mark agrees with me that he’s still an immature horse who doesn’t know what he’s doing when the pressure comes on.

“I think it’s best to give him a little break now and allow him to furnish a bit more. We gelded him at the start of this campaign and kept him going so he’s done a good job and I’m confident he will come back a better horse in the autumn.”

Trail Blazer was purchased for $120,000 as a yearling by Paul Moroney from the Torryburn draft at the Inglis Classic sale.
