PROGRESSIVE HORSES AT SANDOWN TODAY

Two progressive young horses run for us on the Hillside course at Sandown today.

Yatton is the first to go in race two, the Benchmark 70 Handicap for three-year-old fillies over 1600m, with Daniel Stackhouse riding and drawn barrier five in a field of nine.

Yatton made up ground in the home straight when finishing third on debut at the synthetic track at Ballarat over 1400m and Mike Moroney is looking forward to getting the daughter of Savabeel onto the roomier track today.

“She’s trained on really well and she’s come on for the experience,” Moroney said. “She’s improved, her work has been good and I can’t fault her.

“She’s a pretty laid back sort and not too much upsets her.

“It looks an even sort of race with some promising staying fillies and I’m expecting her to run well.”

Poland is in race three, the Benchmark 64 Handicap for three-year-olds over 1300m with Jordan Childs riding.

Poland ran well on debut to finish a close second on a heavy track at Bendigo two weeks ago and Moroney has a high opinion of the son of So You Think.

“He’s trained on well and I’m happy with him,” Moroney said. “He raced greenly in the straight last time and he’s still working it all out.

“He’s a colt we hold in high regard and a horse with a lot of ability. If he can get a trouble-free run and do things a little better then I’m sure he will run really well.”
