A BUSY SUNDAY AT GEELONG

A busy Sunday for the team with five runners at Geelong and we hope some winning chances.

Trail Blazer can get the day off to a winning start in race one, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1500m with Mark Zahra aboard.

The son of Dundeel ran well on debut and Mike Moroney is anticipating a strong showing today.

“The step up in distance will suit and he’s trained on extremely well,” Moroney said.

“We’ve added winkers to his gear to help him concentrate. He’s a horse with a lot of potential and it would be nice to win today and head into the better races."

There are some well-bred colts in this so it’s difficult to assess but provided he concentrates and takes some natural improvement than I think he should be hard to beat.”

Proud Mary and Star Of Eden both debut in race two, the 3YO Fillies Maiden over 1300m with Daniel Stackhouse aboard Proud Mary and drawn in barrier 9.

It is the first time at the races for the daughter of Hinchinbrook which has pleased Mike Moroney coming into the race.

“She’s drawn out a little bit in a race with a lot on debut so it’s difficult to get a real guide on the race,” Moroney said.

“This is a good track to get young horses started and this looks a solid race.

“She’s had a couple of jumpouts coming into this and we’ve put winkers on her to help - she has shown us good ability at home, she has natural talent and I’m looking forward to getting her started.”

Star Of Eden is also on debut with Billy Egan riding the daughter of Wandjina and drawn nicely in barrier five.

“She’s worked really well coming into this and she’s shown us ability for a staying type of filly and her last jumpout was promising,” Moroney said.

“She’s shown us some gate speed in jumpouts but ideally we won’t be rushing forward on her, just trying to find a spot and finish off.

“It’s difficult to assess the opposition but I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t run well.”

Tour Of Duty runs in race four, the Maiden Plate over 1400m, jumping from barrier one under Mark Zahra.

“He’s taken nice improvement from his first-up run and it’s great he’s drawn a barrier,” Moroney said.

“I’d say we’ll take advantage of the barrier and roll forward. Like all the Maiden races today it’s difficult to get a real guide on the opposition but our horse has done extremely well and I’m expecting him to run well.”

Wham (pictured) starts a new campaign in race eight, the Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1200m with Jordan Childs riding.

“We’re really happy with him and I’m looking forward to a nice campaign with him,” Moroney said.

“He’s worked up nicely and his last jumpout was excellent.

“The 1200 is going to be short of his best but he’s drawn to get a nice run from barrier five and I will not be surprised to see him run a cheeky race.”
