DEBUTANT DAY AT GEELONG

We have two debutants at Geelong on Friday when Trail Blazer and Bermadez get their careers started.

Trail Blazer is the first to go in race two, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1250m with Mark Zahra in the saddle and to jump from barrier 11.

The son of Dundeel has been educated with jumpouts at Flemington and Mike Moroney has taken a patient approach.

“He’s a horse we really like and we’re taking him to Geelong because it’s a nice big roomy track,” Moroney said.

“It’s just a shame he’s drawn wide out. Because of that we’ll likely go back and as long as he’s hitting line strongly and has a good experience we’ll be happy.

“I think he should be fine on a soft track and he gets early use on it. If they did happen to go hard in front it will not surprise me in the last to see him finishing off because as I say, he’s a horse we do like a lot.”

Bermadez run in the next race, the 4YO and up Maiden over 1250m with Damien Oliver riding and jumping from barrier 10 after scratchings.

The son of Tavistock has shown good ability in jumpouts but has been a work in progress.

“He’s finally got to the races which is pleasing,” Moroney said. “He has also drawn out wide so we’ll leave it up to Damien how he rides him.

“He’s shown us good ability at home and he’ll be better over further but if he gets ordinary luck from the draw and it’s not his right trip I still think he will be hard to beat.”
