ZAGUSTO DEBUTS AT CRANBOURNE

Zagusto makes his debut on Thursday, one of our two runners at Cranbourne.

Zagusto is in race one, the 2YO Maiden Plate over 1000m with Jordan Childs aboard from barrier five.

The son of Trust In A Gust has pleased Mike Moroney in his jumpouts leading up to his debut.

“I wanted to get going first over 1000m as there should be a bit more speed in it,” Moroney said.

“Although he’s a big horse, he has shown us a bit of speed and I’d rather have him in his comfort zone in a good tempo rather than ripping and tearing.

“He’s definitely got ability, whether this is going to be too quick for him or not we’ll find out but he’s got good gate speed so if Jordan can get him out and then find a position then we will see what he’s got.”

Vantastic is our other runner in race eight, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 2025m with Jamie Mott in the saddle from barrier six.

The four-year-old made up ground over the concluding stages last time out when third over 2219m at Sale and Moroney has made a gear change for today’s race.

“We’ve added blinkers to him and he’s working well in them,” Moroney said.

“He can still do a few things wrong mentally so we’ve put the blinkers on to help him concentrate.

“It’s an even looking sort of race and if he can focus in the blinkers then I do think he’s a winning chance.”
